User Review - Flag as inappropriate Another splendid Morpurgo children's tale. This one is set on Clare Island, Co. Mayo, off the west coast of Ireland. Clare was the home of the 16th Century pirate queen whose ghost is that of the book title. This is the story of Jessie, a plucky little girl suffering from cerebral palsy, and her American cousin, Jack.3/5(1). So far over the course of the Irish Writing and Film MA, we have encountered three different depictions of the Aran Islands. The first was in the Irish Cinema module last semester, when we watched Robert Flaherty’s documentary Man of next encounter with Aran was during the Gender and Sexuality module, in which we examined Emily Lawless’s novel Grania: The Story of an Island.
